Issues
Fiscal Responsibility & Affordability
Making Summit affordable for working- and middle-class families and fixed-income seniors is a top priority. We need to strike a balance between providing residents with the community services and resources they need, while ensuring effective municipal government spending. Our tax dollars must be used thoughtfully and efficiently. Fiscal responsibility in a time of economic uncertainty is critical.
Transparency & Communication
Ensuring our government leaders are transparent with their proposals, perspectives and decisions is an important component of effective government. Local leaders should be held accountable to those they serve, to all of the people in Summit. Empowering residents to participate in local government by sharing information with them and encouraging civic engagement will lead to better outcomes for Summit.
Public Safety
Summit residents value community-centered policing, pedestrian safety, and a focus on prevention rather than just enforcement. Advocating for investments in technology and infrastructure that make neighborhoods safer for all residents is crucial. Safer streets save lives and improve quality of life. We should continue to invest in traffic calming measures, flashing crosswalks, and ensuring sidewalks are well-maintained and accessible for all residents, including seniors and people with disabilities. By prioritizing public safety initiatives to prevent property crime, and partnering with the police department to ensure their needs are met, we can make Summit more secure for all residents.
Sustainability & Resilience
Sustainability and resilience are vital to ensuring a healthy and vibrant community in Summit for generations to come. As a city known for its strong sense of community and environmental consciousness, Summit must prioritize sustainable practices to protect natural resources, reduce carbon emissions, and promote energy efficiency. At the same time, resilience is key to preparing for and adapting to challenges such as extreme weather events, economic shifts, and infrastructure needs. By embracing sustainability and resilience, Summit can safeguard the well-being of its residents and protect our beautiful green spaces.
